The U.S. check system is in need of a huge overhaul. Eventually, all payments via checks will be directly verified in real time, and there will be no need for GPN's check insurance product.

The performance of Global Payments is inexorably linked to the performance of its clients. Given the widespread downturn of the economy during the first quarter of 2008, Global Payments will be further exposed to merchant bankruptcy and under-performance.

Global Payments operates in two highly competitive industries: payment processing and money transfer. Both are replete with competitors, and GPN does not own a dominant market share of either. Furthermore, the company offers little to distinguish itself from its competitors.
