This excerpt taken from the GOOG DEF 14A filed Mar 25, 2008. X Prize Award In October 2007, Google agreed to sponsor the Google Lunar X PRIZE. The Google Lunar X PRIZE is a $30 million international competition to safely land a robot on the surface of the Moon, travel 500 meters over the lunar surface, and send images and data back to the Earth. Teams must be at least 90% privately funded and must be registered to compete by December 31, 2010. Google is the sole title sponsor of the Google Lunar X PRIZE, which is administered by the X PRIZE Foundation, an educational nonprofit prize institute whose mission is to create radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity. Larry Page is a Trustee of the X PRIZE Foundation and is Googles President, Products, one of our founders and a member of our board of directors. Larry also holds approximately 38.0% of Googles Class B common stock. |
