ConsumerSG&A expenses as a percentage of sales increased 4.7 percentage points for the quarter ended September 30, 2006 compared to the same period last year.  The increase is primarily due to the impact of lower sales.  Research and development expenses were $8.9 million, or 9.5 percent of sales, for the quarter ended September 30, 2006 compared to $8.5 million, or 7.7 percent of sales, in the same period last year.

Consumer- Consumer achieved operating income of $49.9 million in fiscal 2006, or 10.1 percent of sales. This represents a 3.7 percentage point increase compared to last year. The growth is primarily due to strong sales of our multimedia products during the year that have higher margins than other consumer products.

ConsumerSG&A expenses as a percentage of net sales increased 2.0 percentage points for the quarter ended March 31, 2006 compared to the same period last year.  During the quarter, higher SG&A expenses were attributed to the acquisition of PhatNoise, higher research and development spending on multimedia programs and higher advertising costs.  For the quarter ended March 31, 2006, research and development expenses were $9.3 million compared to $7.3 million in the same period last year.  These cost increases supported a higher sales base.  For the nine months ended March 31, 2006, SG&A expenses as a percentage of net sales slightly decreased 0.3 percentage points compared to the same period last year.  For the nine months, SG&A expenses increased primarily due to higher research and development expenses, selling costs and general administrative expenses, partially offset by lower advertising expenses.  For the nine-month period ended March 31, 2006, research and development expenses were $26.9 million compared to $21.8 million, in the same periods last year.  The increase in research and development is attributed to the acquisition of PhatNoise and increased personnel to support the development of multimedia products.

ConsumerSG&A expenses as a percentage of sales decreased 1.3 percentage points for the quarter ended December 31, 2005 compared to the same period last year.  SG&A expenses as a percentage of sales decreased 1.1 percentage points for the six months ended December 31, 2005 compared to the same period last year.  In the quarter, SG&A expenses increased primarily due to higher research and development and advertising costs.  For the six months, SG&A expenses increased primarily due to higher research and development, advertising and selling costs.  For the three and six month period ended December 31, 2005, research and development expenses were $9.1 million and $17.6 million, respectively, compared to $7.7 million and $14.5 million, in the same periods last year.  The increase in research and development in both periods is attributed to the acquisition of PhatNoise and increased personnel to support the development of multimedia products.  These cost increases supported higher sales for the three and six month periods, resulting in reduced SG&A as a percentage of sales.

ConsumerSG&A expenses as a percentage of sales decreased 1.1 percentage points for the quarter ended September 30, 2005 compared to the same period last year.  The decrease is due to leveraging fixed costs on higher sales partially offset by increased research and development expenses.  Research and development expenses were $8.5 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2005 compared to $6.7 million in the same period last year.

Consumer  – Consumer achieved operating income of $26.7 million in fiscal 2005, or 6.4 percent of sales. This compares to a loss of $13 million in the prior year. The improvement is due to the success of products developed for multimedia applications such as the Apple iPod and the prior year restructuring of our Specialty Group, which manufactures high-end electronics and loudspeakers for home applications.
