Harmonic Inc. (HLIT) specializes in building advanced video components for television providers including Cablevision, Charter Communications, Comcast, Direct TV, EchoStar and Time Warner Cable. The company derives sales from demand for HDTV and video on demand products. Further, HLIT shifting focus to growing consumer preferences for video streaming downloads via the Internet; the corporation purchased Scopus Video Networks Ltd. in 2008.

While the performance of the telecommunications industry may be hindered by weakening economies in the short run, the demand for video equipment should increase long term as demand for more innovative video presentation continues, which should benefit HLIT's overall success.

Business Financials

The company derived about 60% of its revenue from cable and 40% from satellite/telecom companies in 2007 through which products were sold directly to their customers. In 2008, the company reported revenues of $365 million and net income of $64 million. [1].
