HealthExtras, Inc. (HLEX) is a provider of pharmacy benefit management services (PBM) and supplemental benefits. HealthExtras currently provides benefits to five million members. The company's PBM segment, which operates under the brand name Catalyst Rx, accounted for 97% of its revenue in 2006. HealthExtras PBM clients include more than 1,000 self-insured employers, including state and local governments, third-party administrators (TPAs), and managed care organizations, who contract with HealthExtras to administer the prescription drug component of their overall health benefit programs. The company's integrated PBM services include claims processing, benefit design consultation, drug utilization review, formulary management, drug data analysis services, and mail order services. Additionally, HealthExtras provides access to a national network of over 58,000 pharmacies and maintains an electronic point-of-sale system of eligibility verification and plan design, while offering access to rebate arrangements for certain branded pharmaceuticals. The company also offers supplemental benefit programs under the brand name HealthExtras, which include lump sum accidental disability benefits, accidental death and dismemberment benefits, and emergency accident and sickness medical benefits. The company contracts with insurance companies to underwrite the insurance components of these programs. As a result, the financial responsibility for the payment of claims resulting from a qualifying event covered by the insurance features of its programs is borne by the third-party insurers. The company's supplemental benefits segment accounted for 3% of the company's revenue in 2006. Individuals are the major purchasers of these programs.
