Financial Reporting Standards
This is the
first Annual Report of the Group prepared in
accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards
(IFRS) as endorsed by the European Commission
(adopted IFRS). The transition date for the adoption
of IFRS is 1 January 2004. All comparative data in this
report has been restated, except the Group has taken the
exemption under IFRS 1 First-time
Adoption ofInternational
Financial Reporting Standards not
to restate comparatives

ICI has applied the
exemption by
the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to exclude
a second year of comparatives.
