William Powell joined National Starch and Chemical Company in 1976, gaining extensive experience in production, planning and general management. In 1981, he was appointed Divisional Vice President of Manufacturing for Adhesives and Resins. He was promoted to Corporate Vice President of the Resins and Specialty Chemical Division in 1984; Corporate Vice President, International in 1986; Group Vice President, Industrial Starch and Food Products division in 1989; and Executive Vice President in 1997. In 1999, he was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. William Powell has a degree in Chemistry and a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. In addition, he has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota. He is a past Chairman of the Corn Refiners Association and currently an Honorary Director. He is a Non-Executive Director of Granite Construction Inc. and a member of the Institute of Food Technologists and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is also a member of: the Board of Directors of the American Chemistry Council; the Executive Committee of the Society of Chemical Industry, American Section; and the Board of Trustees of the State Theatre of New Jersey.
