merger of four of the
largest UK chemical
companies.
    The Company has progressive
employment policies, offering a
discounted share scheme for
employees and in 1929 convening
its first workers council.
  ICI’s profits fall following the
1929 stock market crash, reaching
a low in 1931 of £4m on £100m
capital employed.
  ‘Perspex’ is developed by ICI
scientist John Crawford, along with
a cost-effective production process.
