This excerpt taken from the ICI 6-K filed Mar 21, 2007. Net investment hedging (currency hedging) Currency derivatives are fair valued through the income statement except, where currency derivatives and foreign currency loans form part of designated, effective net investment hedge relationships, the portion of the gain or loss on the hedging instrument that is determined to be an effective hedge is recognised directly in equity. The ineffective portion of the gain or loss on the hedging instrument is recognised immediately in income or expense. For net investment hedges, the gain or loss on the hedging instrument that has been recognised in equity is recognised in income or expense on the disposal of the foreign operation.
