WIKI ANALYSISThe Korea Fund is an investment company that invests in South Korean equities. It holds a closed fund, however investors can invest into the holding company; it is publicly traded as KF on NYSE. Although it has limited itself to South Korean companies, it has not limited itself to any industry. KF's investments are managed by RCM Capital Management LLC. It was created in 1984.
KF seeks capital appreciation based on a combination of bottom-up research and non-traditional market research from Grassroots Research. The initial screening and research is done by KF's sub-adviser, RCM Asia Pacific Limited. Then KF uses Grassroots Research to perform macroeconomic analysis.
In the last decade, KF had only one year of negative performance, 1999, prior to this year, 2008 (year to date 9/20/2008). KF's last posted dividend was in December of 2007 and has never had a consistent dividend schedule. KF states that the funds beta is .93, however Google's continuous calculation states it is 1.76. Samsung Electronics is KF's largest investment, making up approximately 10% of the fund. over 90% of the fund is invested in equities and the rest is kept for liquidity.
