MDU Plagued by Financial Crisis The 2008 Financial Crisis caused MDU stock to decline 35.72%. In five days, the DOW declined 1400 points (13%). Similar companies, such as WMB and NI have also had declines during this time period. MDU 1Q Profits Rise on Energy Gains MDU's 1Q 2007 profit rose more than 50% compared with 2006 1Q profits. The company beat analyst estimates. The rise was largely due to gains in the company's oil and gas production segment, due to high energy prices. That rise helped to offset falling income in the company's construction segments due to weak housing prices.
