MagnaChip Semiconductor (NYSE:MX) based out of Korea, designs and makes analog and mixed-signal semiconductors. The company's business is divided into 3 segments: Display Solutions, Power Solutions and Semiconductor Manufacturing Services. The Display Solutions makes semiconductors which are used in flat panel and mobile displays. The Power Solutions' integrated and discrete circuits are used to manage the power usage for electrical devices. Finally, Semiconductor Manufacturing Services segment makes analog and mixed signal semiconductors to be used in computing and wireless markets.[1]
MagnaChip manufactures its products out of 3 plants located in Korea. The company believes that this gives a geographic advantage as it is near to other Original Equipment Manufacturer and Original Design Manufacturers. According to Gartner (IT), the production of displays which use semiconductors that MagnaChip products will increase by 8%, 39%, 25%, and 99% respectively in 2010 through 2013.[2]
The company's initial public offering of stock on the NYSE occurred on March 10, 2011. The company offered 9.5M ADSs each for $14. This was below the initial price range of $15-$17. The lead underwriters of the IPO were Barclays (BCS), Deutsche Bank AG (DB), and Goldman.[3]
