This excerpt taken from the MRO 10-Q filed Aug 7, 2007. Other Proceedings Marathon resolved the enforcement action brought by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) in 2007 regarding a release of catalyst from the fluid catalytic cracking unit at the St. Paul Park, Minnesota, refinery for a civil penalty of $60,000. MPCA had originally sought a penalty of $121,800. The United States Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration (OSHA) has announced a National Emphasis Program (NEP) where it plans to inspect most of the domestic oil refinery locations in 2007 and 2008. The inspections will focus on compliance with the OSHA Process Safety Management requirements and may take several weeks or months to conduct. OSHA commenced an inspection at Marathons Canton, Ohio, refinery in the second quarter of 2007. Some enforcement actions by OSHA under the NEP against domestic petroleum refiners may result from the inspections but there is no specific enforcement action against Marathon at this time. There have been no other significant changes to our environmental matters subsequent to December 31, 2006. |
