Share Purchase Program The Banks Shareholdings Purchase Corporation was established in January 2002 in order to purchase shares from banks and other financial institutions until September 30, 2006 pursuant to the Law Concerning Restriction on Shareholdings by Banks. This law was further amended effective March 10, 2009 to allow the Banks Shareholdings Purchase Corporation to resume purchases of shares held by financial institutions as well as shares of financial institutions held by non-financial institutions, up to a maximum amount of ¥20 trillion between March 12, 2009 and March 31, 2012. In February 2009, the Bank of Japan also decided to resume purchases of shares held by banks and other financial institutions up to a maximum amount of ¥1 trillion until April 30, 2010. |
