Minority Interests

Minority interests were $(1.5) million in 2008 compared to $0.1 million in 2007 and $0.9 million in 2006. The 2008 minority interests include $(0.9) million representing 1.2% of OMX income for the period February 27, 2008 to August 27, 2008 (the effective date of the purchase of the remaining minority OMX AB shares). The 2007 and 2006 minority interests relate to Reuters’ investment in the Independent Research Network, a joint venture created to help public companies obtain independent analyst coverage, beginning in the third quarter of 2005. This investment was reduced to zero due to losses incurred at the Independent Research Network and all losses of the Independent Research Network were recorded by us. We have discontinued the Independent Research Network’s operations.

Minority Interests

For the three months ended September 30, 2008, we recorded minority interest of $0.2 million representing OMX’s minority interest holdings. For the nine months ended September 30, 2008, we recorded minority interest of $1.3 million, which includes $0.9 million representing 1.2% of the OMX income for the period February 27, 2008 to August 27, 2008 (the effective date of the purchase of the remaining minority OMX shares). The 2007 minority interest relates to Reuters’ investment in the Independent Research Network, which has been reduced to zero due to losses incurred at the Independent Research Network. All of the Independent Research Network’s losses are recorded by us. We have previously announced that we will discontinue the Independent Research Network’s operations.

Minority Interests

Minority interests were ($0.8) million in the second quarter 2008 and were ($1.0) million in the first six months of 2008 compared with $0.1 million for the first six months of 2007, a decrease of $1.1 million. The minority interests in 2008 primarily relate to the minority holding of 1.2% in OMX as of June 30, 2008. The 2007 minority interests relate to Reuters’ investment in the Independent Research Network, which has been reduced to zero due to losses incurred at the Independent Research Network. All of the Independent Research Network’s losses are recorded by us. We have previously announced that we will discontinue the Independent Research Network’s operations.

Minority Interests

Minority interests were a loss of $0.3 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008, compared with income of $0.1 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2007, a decrease of $0.4 million. The minority interests in the first quarter of 2008 primarily relates to the minority holding of 1.2% in OMX as of March 31, 2008. The first quarter 2007 minority interests relates to Reuters investment in the Independent Research Network which has been reduced to zero due to losses incurred at the Independent Research Network. All of the Independent Research Network’s losses are recorded by us. We have previously announced that we will discontinue the Independent Research Network’s operations.

Minority interests

Minority interests during the period under review related primarily to third-party holdings in the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian stock exchanges.
