NDAQ » Topics » Securities Purchased Under Agreements to Resell and Securities Sold Under Agreements to RepurchaseThese excerpts taken from the NDAQ 8-K filed Jan 27, 2006. Securities Purchased Under Agreements to Resell and Securities Sold Under Agreements to Repurchase
Transactions involving purchases of securities under agreements to resell and securities sold under agreements to repurchase are treated as collateralized financing transactions and are recorded at their contracted resale amounts plus accrued interest. It is the Companys policy to take possession of securities with a market value in excess of the principal amount loaned plus the accrued interest thereon, in order to collateralize reverse repurchase agreements. Similarly, the Company is required to provide securities to counterparties in order to collateralize repurchase agreements. The Companys agreements with counterparties generally contain contractual provisions allowing for additional collateral to be obtained, or excess collateral returned, when necessary. It is the Companys policy to value collateral daily and to obtain additional collateral, or to retrieve excess collateral from counterparties, when deemed appropriate.
