Founded in 1984, Houston, Texas-based NCI Building Systems, Inc. (NCS) is one of the largest integrated manufacturers of metal products for the North American non-residential construction industry. It has 44 manufacturing and distribution facilities located in 18 states as well as in Mexico and Canada. Historically, growth has been achieved with a mix of organic growth and acquisitions. The company's operations consist of three business segments that comprise metal components, engineered building systems, and metal coil coating.

The Metal Components segment engages in the sale of metal roof and wall systems, metal partitions, metal trim and doors to contractors and end users in the construction industry. Also, it competes in the repair market and maintains a stock of metal component parts used in the maintenance of existing buildings. These component parts include girts, partitions, header panels, trims, and screws as well as total system parts.

The Engineered Building Systems segment manufactures main frames and Long Bay Systems (eliminates all welding on-site) and provides engineering and drafting services to clients. The engineered building systems consists of primary structural framing, secondary structural framing (purlins and girts), and metal roof and wall systems. The company designs the product based on customer specifications and makes on-site assembly very easy for the building contractor. The sale of these systems is directed towards all non-residential markets including commercial, industrial, agricultural, and governmental. This segment represents the largest percentage of the company's sales.

The Metal Coil Coating segment engages in the cleaning, treating, and painting of steel coils prior to the fabrication of the steel. The company meets its entire internal metal coil coating requirements. This consumed up to 55% of its total production in FY06. Hence, the term integrated manufacturer. NCI Building System also provides the service to third parties for use in construction products, heating and air conditioning systems, and water heaters.
