Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, NEC Corporation provides components and systems services solutions for computing and communications applications. Earlier, the company operated through three segments: Information Technology (IT) Solutions, Network Solutions, and Electron Devices. However, since the first quarter of fiscal 2007, NEC reorganized its business segments in accordance with the reorganized company structure, which became effective on April 1, 2006. Under the new segment categorization, the company has the following three reportable segments:
IT/Network Solutions Business: This unit offers Internet-related services and other computing solutions to both private and government enterprises. It also provides wireless and wireline network infrastructure to help network service providers build and operate their networks. The segment also designs enterprise network systems and network systems for telecommunications carriers. Services provided by the company include the following: systems integration (SI) services servers, computer software, business computer, maintenance, and customer support services and broadcast video systems, control systems, and aerospace/defense systems.
Mobile/Personal Solutions Business: This division provides mobile handsets and personal solutions products, including personal computers (PCs) and personal communication devices.
Electron Devices Business: This unit offers semiconductors (including system-level semiconductor solutions and general-purpose dynamic random access memories, or DRAMs), displays, and other electronic components for use in computers, communications products, digital consumer electronic products, and automobiles.
