Following a transition period, Veurink will succeed NiSource Vice President and Controller Jeffrey W. Grossman in the role of Chief Accounting Officer, with responsibility for financial reporting and accounting. Grossman has previously announced plans to step down from his role as the company's chief accounting officer on March 1, 2010. He will formally retire from NiSource on Dec. 31, 2010.

"I am very pleased to announce that Jon Veurink will be joining our financial leadership team," NiSource Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Stephen P. Smith said. "Jon brings exceptional technical accounting knowledge and experience, as well as proven leadership qualities, to this important role. He has extensive experience within the energy sector, along with strong knowledge of SEC reporting, internal controls, regulatory accounting and overseeing Sarbanes-Oxley implementation. Those qualities, along with his strong record of building and leading high-performing teams, will make Jon a fine addition to our NiSource financial leadership team."

Grossman has served in several leadership positions at various Columbia Energy Group operating companies since 1979, and was assistant controller before becoming vice president and controller in 1996. He held that position until NiSource acquired Columbia in November 2000, when he was named vice president and controller of NiSource.

"Jeff has been an invaluable leader for the NiSource Finance groups through some of the most monumental periods in our company's history," Smith noted. "Through it all, he has worked tirelessly and effectively on behalf of our customers and our company. We wish him well as he prepares for retirement, and will support him, Jon and the entire Finance team to ensure a successful and seamless leadership transition."

Veurink has served since 2004 as controller and chief accounting officer for Exelon Generation Company, LLC, where he was responsible for the accounting and financial reporting at Exelon Generation (ExGen).

Before joining ExGen, Veurink was an Audit Partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP, serving in a progression of leadership roles. He is a Certified Public Accountant who received his B.A. in Business Administration from Alma College.

Veurink will be based at NiSource Inc. offices in Columbus, Ohio, where the majority of the corporation's Accounting staff and functions are located.
