This excerpt taken from the NKE DEF 14A filed Aug 9, 2006. DOW JONES FOOTWEAR INDEX AND S&P APPAREL, ACCESSORIES & LUXURY GOODS INDEX
Effective in 2006, the Standard & Poors Footwear Index consisted only of NIKE, so the Company has elected to replace that index with the Dow Jones Footwear Index, which consists of NIKE, Stride Rite Corp., Timberland Co., Wolverine World Wide, Inc., and Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc. Because NIKE is part of the Dow Jones Footwear Index, the price and returns of NIKE stock have a substantial effect on this index. The Standard & Poors Apparel, Accessories & Luxury Goods Index consists of Liz Claiborne, Inc., VF Corp., Coach, Inc., and Jones Apparel. The Dow Jones Footwear Index and the Standard & Poors Apparel, Accessories, and Luxury Goods Indices include companies in two major lines of business in which the Company competes. The indices do not encompass all of the Companys competitors, nor all product categories and lines of business in which the Company is engaged. The Stock Performance shown on the Graph above is not necessarily indicative of future performance. The Company will not make nor endorse any predictions as to future stock performance.
