Nintendo increased its sales estimates for the year for both the Wii and the DS. Shares rose 4% in the days following the announcement, adding to their 26% gain over the past three months.

Industry reports show that Wii sales have totaled over 5.84 million units since its introduction in late 2006. The Wii has far outsold Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 during that time.
VP of marketing for Nintendo of America reported that Wii shortages would continue a while because the company was at maximum production. Demand for the video game console has been strong.
Nintendo reported that earnings for the year would be better than forecasted thanks to strong sales of it game systems, including the Wii
