On February 19th, the company announced that it expected first quarter revenue for 2008 to be between$ 200 and $210. The company also forecasted total revenues for 2008 to be approximately $700 million. Previous expectations pegged these numbers at $251 million and $845 million respectively. The company said that the decrease in expected revenue is a result of the harsh economic conditions throughout the economy. As the economy continues to struggle, the company believes there will be less spending on discretionary items such as NutriSystem's home-delivery meal program.
NutriSystem’s stock price declined after the company reduced its forecasts for the third quarter from 77-82 cents a share to 62-66 cents a share. The company reduced its revenue estimates from $200-208 million to $188 million.
