Slumping consumer spending has hurt PFCB's growth- in 2008 China Bistro's comparable store sales dropped 3.2% while Pei Wei's comp sales dipped 3.7%. Furthermore, in Q1 2009, the comparable store sales declined 6.6% and 2.2% at the China Bistro and Pei, respectively. Because of the declines in sales, PFCB expects its overall revenue to grow by only 1%-2% in 2009, compared to 10.5% in 2008. Additionally, PFCB is being more cautious in this consumer environment, opening less than 10 new restaurants in 2009, compared to 42 new restaurants in 2008.
