Pain Therapeutics main product is a novel delivery system in which oxycodone is infused into a gel so it can't be tampered with like Oxycontin and others that can be. However it still contains Oxycodone with all of its associated risks and it has to be taken with a meal. This would be difficult for patients who are ill and would have problems eating. It also takes almost 2 hours to take effect and seems to cause more severe constipation as a side effect and it is just as addictive as other opiods of this class. Even if it was approved by the FDA. Patients would perfer other pain medications and thus sales would be poor
