Royalty Obligations We accrue for royalty obligations to certain technology and patent holders based on (1) unit shipments of our smartphones and handheld computers, (2) a percentage of applicable revenue for the net sales of products using certain software technologies or (3) a fully paid-up license fee, all as determined in accordance with the applicable license agreements. Where agreements are not finalized, accrued royalty obligations represent managements current best estimates using appropriate assumptions and projections based on negotiations with third party licensers. As of February 28, 2009, we had estimated royalty obligations of $37.5 million which were reported in other accrued liabilities. While the amounts ultimately agreed upon may be more or less than the current accrual, management does not believe that finalization of the agreements would have had a material impact on the amounts reported for our financial position as of February 28, 2009 or on the results reported for the three months then ended; however, the effect of finalization of these agreements in the future may be significant to the period in which recorded.
