Clarification about news: acquisitions

Rio de Janeiro, August 24 2009 – PETRÓLEO BRASILEIRO S/A – PETROBRAS, regarding the news published by the press about potential acquisitions by Petrobras in the petrochemical and biofuel segments, wishes to clarify that is party of its business to constantly analyze different opportunities in all the segments which the Company operates.

Regarding the takeover of Brenco, a Brazilian ethanol company, Petrobras clarifies that some analysis are being developed by the Companies in view to single out possible synergies in the biofuel production area, but that thus far no deal has been made.

About the possible takeover of Quattor Participações S.A. (“Quattor”) by Braskem S.A. (“Braskem”), the Company, as a minority shareholder of both Braskem and Quattor, ratifies the press release issued by Braskem today, informing that although Braskem and Quattor shareholders have been analyzing possible strategic alliance opportunities, until the present time, there has been no concrete result or commitment.
