With this subsidiary, Petrobras takes advantage of the business opportunity arising from the increase in world demand for biofuels and, in addition, strengthens its position as a company committed to the environment and social development. Besides contributing to reducing global warming, biofuels production generates jobs and income in rural areas, by employing family farms to produce the raw materials. On July 29, 2008, Petrobras Biocombustível opened its first commercial biodiesel production plant in Candeias (Bahia). This plant will have an annual production capacity of 57 million liters of biodiesel.
