LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/03/09 -- Contrary to popular belief, a recent study revealed that the majority of people who start their own business do so because they don't want to work for someone else. Shane, a professor at Case Western Reserve University, also revealed that those who start businesses primarily because they don't want to work for someone else rarely rise above a virtually stagnant sole proprietorship.

"The results of this study don't surprise me," said Krider. "To accomplish something, you need to have a strong desire to achieve a goal. You have to want to create something, not simply avoid something -- like a boss."

Krider also said this might well explain why 75% of new businesses fail within their first three years.

"It takes enthusiasm to make a go of it. It's hard to get enthusiastic about nothing other than not having to deal with a boss every day."
