The opportunity to use combined heat and power appliances as a part of a Smart Grid strategy is being missed by PSE. Perhaps because of the traditional relationship with the Washington State Utility Commision and now due to the offshore ownership of PSE.
The new owners will be looking to leverage their rather large investment and are not going to be looking for new opportunities for capacity management.
This could change dramatically if members of the Washington State Utility Commision and executives in PSE were the test cases for Combined Heat Power Smart Grid controlled appliances.
In the rainy parts of PSE service area CHP would add a significant new source of negawatts with very little new capital required.
