Concept. Pure Bioscience (PURE) has developed and patented a new disinfectant, Silver Dihydride Citrate (SDC) that's more effective than what's available in the market today, and which could be a valuable tool for cruise lines, which routinely suffer from ship-wide outbreaks of infectious disease thought to be caused by insufficiently disenfected water tanks. The product is still being tested by these companies.
SDC has a very low toxicity (EPA rating of 4). It has been tested for 14 months at a jail in Tulsa Oklahoma which houses 1500 inmates. Prior to using SDC the jail experienced, on average 14 cases of Methicilin Resistent Staphylococcus Aureus (JMRSA) per month. There have been none since they began using SDC.
The World Cruise Ship Consortium learned about this and has been testing SDC for use in their 500 ships. These ships have experienced many episodes of Norovirus infection in recent years causing large numbers of passengers to become ill. This is not good for business. The consortium said that if SDC could keep a treated surface virus free for 24 hours PURE would get their disinfectant business which amounts to about $500 million per year. The tests were successful. The SDC is now being tested aboard 2 ships for 60 days to be sure it won't cause unexpected problems like staining carpets if spilled, etc. If successful aboard ship a supply contract will be issued, probably in Q1 2008. PURE's share of the $500 million is $300 million with $200 million going to the distributor. Assuming an 85% pretax margin and 40% for taxes this boils down to $153 million or $5.10 per share. Several large consumer product companies are testing SDC to determine if it can be used in their cleaning products. I call this type of company a Microsoft type company: Very large demand with one supplier.
