US Marine Corps Strengthens Partnership with Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE:RST), a leading provider of technology-based language learning solutions, announced today that it will continue and expand its successful partnership with the United States Marine Corps with a $1.25 million contract award to provide language learning training utilizing Rosetta Stone® Enterprise, a self-paced language-learning solution for organizations of any size that can be used upon demand. The agreement allows Rosetta Stone, a powerful language learning training solution that builds foundational language skills through immersion-based, self-paced study, to support the Marine Corps and assist its learners worldwide with building fundamental language skills.

The Marine Corps’ Center for Advanced Operational Culture Learning (CAOCL) ensures Marines are equipped with operationally relevant regional, culture, and language knowledge for successful operations. Beginning in July 2008 CAOCL selected Rosetta Stone to assist with this mission by providing a flexible and scalable language learning solution. With this new contract award Rosetta Stone will continue to be a resource to develop language-capable Marines.

“We’re excited to strengthen our partnership with the Marine Corps and stand by our strong commitment to our troops’ language learning success,” said Tom Adams, CEO of Rosetta Stone. “The U.S. Marines have seen a tremendous value in our Rosetta Stone Enterprise solution and with the renewal of our award-winning software, learners will enhance their proficiency in a new language and empower themselves to change and save lives around the world.”

”The Marine Corps is pleased to have Rosetta Stone back for another year to provide a language familiarization capability for our Marines. We will use this to assist in meeting the Commandant’s vision in ‘The Long War Send in the Marines’ in which he calls for ‘linguistically adept, culturally aware units’ within the Marine Corps,” said George Dallas, Director of the CAOCL.

The U.S. Marines are enhancing the partnership by providing all Active and Reserve Marines with access to the Rosetta Stone speech recognition software. The advanced speech recognition technology will be available on all Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) computers on every Marine Corps base. Marines will be able to accelerate language acquisition and begin speaking their new language quickly with accurate pronunciation. Solders no longer have to rely on translation to scale language borders as the Rosetta Stone method allows them to confidently communicate with one another and the global community.

Rosetta Stone Enterprise is a next-generation solution that provides immersion-based language learning with quantifiable measurements of success. In addition to the U.S. Marines, the U.S. Army has also deemed language learning a mission critical tool vital to government success and employs Rosetta Stone Enterprise. More than 30 languages are available with Rosetta Stone, including those deemed by the U.S. government as critical to national security – Arabic, Hindi, Korean, Spanish, Persian (Farsi) and Pashto. The Rosetta Stone solution provides inherent value to government organizations as they can train more employees for less than the cost of traditional language programs.
