ROSS STORES REPORTS OCTOBER SALES

     Pleasanton, California, November 8, 2007 -- Ross Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROST) today reported sales of $470 million for the four weeks ended November 3, 2007, a 6% increase over the $444 million in sales for the four weeks ended November 4, 2006. Same store sales for the four weeks ended November 3, 2007 declined 1% from the four weeks ended November 4, 2006.

     For the thirteen weeks ended November 3, 2007, sales were $1.468 billion, an 8% increase over the $1.364 billion in sales reported for the thirteen weeks ended November 4, 2006. Same store sales for the thirteen weeks ended November 3, 2007 grew 1% over the comparable prior year period ended November 4, 2006.

     For the nine months ended November 3, 2007, sales were $4.324 billion, an 8% increase over the $3.991 billion in sales for the nine months ended November 4, 2006. Comparable store sales for the nine months ended November 3, 2007 rose 1% over the nine months ended November 4, 2006.

     Michael Balmuth, Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, “We believe that our business in October was impacted by the ongoing challenging macroeconomic environment combined with unseasonably warm weather in a number of our markets. The strongest region during the month was the Northwest, while Dresses and Home remained the top performing businesses.”

     Looking ahead, Mr. Balmuth said, “Based on recent sales and margin trends, we now estimate that earnings per share for the 13 weeks ended November 3, 2007 will be in the range of $.35 to $.36. This compares to earnings per share for the third quarter of 2006 of $.31. As we enter the important holiday season, we remain cautious in our outlook and defensively postured with lower inventories and tight expense controls. We will provide sales and earnings guidance for the fourth quarter with our third quarter earnings release and conference call on Tuesday, November 20th.”

ROSS STORES REPORTS JULY SALES

     Pleasanton, California, August 9, 2007 -- Ross Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROST) today reported sales of $450 million for the four weeks ended August 4, 2007, a 9% increase over the $414 million in sales for the four weeks ended August 5, 2006. Same store sales for the four weeks ended August 4, 2007 grew 1% compared to the four weeks ended August 5, 2006.

     For the 13 weeks ended August 4, 2007, sales were $1.445 billion, a 10% increase over the $1.317 billion in sales reported for the 13 weeks ended August 5, 2006. Comparable store sales for the 13 weeks ended August 4, 2007 rose 2% over the 13 weeks ended August 5, 2006. Comparable store sales rose 4% for the second quarter ended July 29, 2006.

     For the six months ended August 4, 2007, sales were $2.855 billion, a 9% increase over the $2.627 billion in sales for the six months ended August 5, 2006. Same store sales for the six months ended August 4, 2007 grew 1% over the six months ended August 5, 2006. Comparable store sales rose 5% for the six months ended July 29, 2006.

     Michael Balmuth, Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, “Comparable store sales in July were below our expectations for a 3% to 4% increase. After performing in line with plan during the first two weeks, sales slowed during the latter part of the month, especially in our back-to-school categories. Although disappointing, we are hopeful that this is a temporary issue driven mainly by a larger-than-planned impact from the later back-to-school start dates compared to last year, especially in Texas and Florida. These two key states were also negatively affected by the shift in sales tax holidays, which moved from July last year into August this year. As expected, we estimate that this change reduced same store sales for the Company by at least 1% in July.”

ROSS STORES REPORTS JULY SALES

          Pleasanton, California, August 3, 2006 -- Ross Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROST) today reported sales of $397 million for the four-week period ended July 29, 2006, a 10% increase above the $362 million in sales reported for the four weeks ended July 30, 2005.  Comparable store sales for the same period increased 1% on top of a 7% gain in the prior year. 

          For the 13 weeks ended July 29, 2006, sales were $1.308 billion, a 12% increase over the $1.172 billion in sales reported for the 13 weeks ended July 30, 2005.  Comparable store sales for the second quarter rose 4% on top of a 7% increase in the prior year.

          For the six months ended July 29, 2006, sales totaled $2.600 billion, up 13% over the $2.296 billion in sales for the six months ended July 30, 2005.   Comparable store sales for the first six months of 2006 grew 5% on top of a 5% increase in the prior year.

          Michael Balmuth, Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “July sales were below plan, as business unexpectedly slowed across most markets and merchandise categories.  Nevertheless, based on healthy sales gains for the second quarter overall, we are reiterating our prior forecast for earnings per share for the 13 weeks ended July 29, 2006 to be at the high end of our $.30 to $.32 range.”   

          Mr. Balmuth continued, “Solid sales of seasonal clearance in July were more than offset by below-plan sales of transitional and early fall merchandise.  Even though we believe that unseasonably warm weather contributed somewhat to this shortfall, the sudden slowdown in our business increases our concern going forward.  We expect to have better visibility into the competitive climate and our initial back-to-school sales and margin trends when we report second quarter earnings on August 16th.  Our outlook for the second half of 2006 along with monthly comparable store sales guidance and detailed operating statement assumptions for the third quarter will be provided on the conference call.”
