Senomyx, Inc. was founded September 1998 by Howard Hughes Medical Investigators Charles Zuker and Roger Y. Tsien (Nobel Laureate), whom also founded Aurora Biosciences (acquired by Vertex Pharmaceuticals for about $592 million in stock). Senomyx uses taste receptor-based assays and screening technologies to discover and develop flavor enhancers and taste modulators for the food and beverage industry. The Company has entered into development collaborations with seven leading food, beverage, and ingredient supply companies, which include Ajinomoto Co., Inc., Cadbury Schweppes, Campbell Soup Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Firmenich SA, Nestle SA and Solae LLC.

Senomyx’s current focus programs include the discovery and development of 1) savory, sweet, and salt flavor ingredients that can substitute or allow for the reduction of MSG, sugar, and salt in food and beverage products, 2) bitter blockers that will reduce or block bitter tastes in foods, beverages, and pharmaceuticals, and 3) cooling ingredients for a cooling taste effect for confectioneries, foods and beverages, and oral care and OTC healthcare products.
