Teleflex Medical Launches New Ergonomic Kit Design for Maximal Barrier Precautions Trays

Teleflex Medical, a leading global provider of disposable medical products for critical care and surgical applications, has announced availability of new ergonomically packaged Maximal Barrier Precautions Trays for its Arrow pressure injectable acute central venous catheters. The new kit design enhances the ease-of-use and ease-of-implementation of evidence-based tools designed to reduce the risks of costly and deadly hospital-acquired, catheter-associated infections.

The first product to be available with the newly designed trays and features is the ARROWg+ard Blue PLUS® catheter. ARROWg+ard Blue PLUS® (AGB+®) is Teleflex Medical’s proven catheter-based antimicrobial technology and the only catheter on the market with internal lumen extension line protection. The AGB+ catheter, in combination with the Maximal Barrier kit’s contents, is an integrated system for combating five sources of catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI): environmental contamination, skin flora, post-placement subcutaneous tract infection, intraluminal contamination, and hematogenous seeding.

The Arrow Maximal Barrier Precautions Tray also helps reduce risk by including protective apparel and upgraded sharps safety devices. The kit’s components help ensure compliance with the latest guidelines from The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America /Infectious Diseases Society of America (SHEA/IDSA Practice Recommendations), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).

The new kits also include echogenic introducer needles designed to enhance visibility of the needle tip under ultrasound guidance. Ultrasound guidance has been shown to substantially reduce venous access complications compared with the more common landmark techniques. The CDC, IHI, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) support the use of ultrasound guidance for the placement of central venous catheters.

“Teleflex Medical is committed to providing our customers with innovative ways to support their efforts to reduce infection. The new, ergonomic Maximal Barrier Precautions Tray is designed to help healthcare providers comply with recognized guidelines and practice recommendations to support their efforts to reduce catheter-related blood stream infection,” stated Ernest Waaser, President, Teleflex Medical.
