Based in Hillsborough, OR, TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (TQNT) is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of semiconductor communication integrated circuits (ICs). The product line is strategically focused on radio frequency (RF), analog, and mixed signal devices. Specialized materials, such as gallium arsenide (GaAs) and indium phosphide (InP) are utilized in the construction of semiconductor devices that incorporate various transistor technologies, including pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistors (pHEM), Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors (HBT), heterostructure field effect transistors (HFET) and metal-semiconductor-field-effect-transistors (MESFET). These devices have overcome performance barriers inherent in other semiconductor designs and offer several advantages. For example, gallium arsenide (GaAs) has a higher saturated electron velocity, higher electron mobility, and is less noisy than Silicon (Si), which enables GaAs circuits to operate at higher speeds or with lower power consumption however, it is more expensive, and wafer insulators are less effective. With the 2001 acquisition of Sawtek, Inc., the product line was expanded to include filter devices that incorporate surface acoustic wave (SAW) technology. These specialized material technologies, along with SAW filters, are better suited for specific applications within the wireless communications, telecommunications, microwave and millimeter wave communications industries.
