< Return to Bears page"With competition on the horizon, Fuzeon sales will suffer"
It is expected that there would be further decline in the U.S. sales of Fuzeon in the coming quarters in the face of increasing competition. Pfizer (PFE) has Selzentry (previously known as maraviroc) which was launched in the U.S. in September 2007 after receiving FDA approval in August. Plus, Merck (MRK) has Isentress; it also received FDA approval in October 2007. Specifically, we expect the drug to post sales of only $267.3 million in 2008, a marginal improvement over 2007 levels. As we expected, Trimeris achieved profitability in the third quarter of 2006, and will remain profitable quarter by quarter going forward. However, continued pressure on Fuzeon sales will push the company's EPS down from $0.77 in 2007 to $0.58 in 2011.
Sales of Fuzeon have increased overall in 2007 due to the strong growth outside of the US and Canada. If it weren’t for the growth in international sales, overall sales for 2007 would have been lower.
