Verizon Wireless announced today it will introduce the nation’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Burlington, and more than 30 additional communities throughout Northern Vermont, on May 17.
Verizon Wireless customers with compatible 4G LTE smartphones, modems, tablets and mobile hotspots will be able to wirelessly share music and photos, surf the Web, and download files up to 10 times faster than customers on 3G networks.
Verizon Wireless’ new 4G LTE network initially will be available in the following cities and towns across the Green Mountain State:
“Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network will offer tremendous opportunity to Northern Vermont residents and businesses to better connect and innovate,” said Christine Berberich, New England Region President for Verizon Wireless. “As New England’s wireless leader, we continue to invest in and expand our 4G LTE coverage across the region and look forward to bringing these communities on board next week.”
4G LTE Devices and Plans
Verizon Wireless customers can purchase a variety of 4G LTE-enabled devices including netbooks, hotspots, modems, smartphones and tablets, to connect to the largest 4G LTE network in the nation. Details on devices can be found at www.verizonwireless.com/4GLTE and information on plans and pricing is available at www.verizonwireless.com/plans.
4G LTE Coverage and Speed
As of April 19, Verizon's 4G LTE network covers more than two-thirds of the U.S. population - allowing consumers in 230 markets to take advantage of blazingly fast speeds with six times more coverage than AT&T (coverage claim based on square miles covered with 4G LTE; see www.vzw.com). By the end of 2012, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network will be in more than 400 markets, and available to more than 260 million people in the United States.
In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their city, or when they travel to an area already covered by 4G LTE.
