Television Production and Distribution

The Company produces and distributes live action and animated television programming under the ABC Studios, ABC Media Productions, and ABC Family Productions labels. Program development is carried out in collaboration with independent writers, producers, and creative teams, with a focus on half-hour comedies, one-hour dramas, and reality series primarily for primetime broadcasts. Primetime programming produced either for our networks or for third parties in the 2009/2010 television season include the returning one-hour dramas Army Wives, Brothers & Sisters, Castle, Criminal Minds, Desperate Housewives, Ghost Whisperer, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Private Practice, Raising the Bar, and Ugly Betty; the returning half-hour comedies Gary Unmarried and Scrubs; and new primetime series that premiered in the fall of 2009 which included the one-hour drama Flash Forward, and the half-hour comedies Cougar Town and Ruby & The Rockits. Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, and Ghost Whisperer entered the domestic syndication market during 2009. We also produce Jimmy Kimmel Live for late night and a variety of primetime specials for network television and live-action syndicated programming. Syndicated programming includes Live! with Regis and Kelly, a daily talk show, At the Movies, a weekly motion picture review program; Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, a game show; and Legend of the Seeker, a one-hour drama.

Disney-ABC Domestic Television and Disney-ABC-ESPN Television International distribute the Company’s productions domestically and internationally, respectively. The Company’s productions are also distributed in DVD format by the Studio Entertainment segment and online.

These entities are collectively referred to as the Production Companies. Program development is carried out in collaboration with a number of independent writers, producers, and creative teams, with a focus on the development and production of half-hour comedies, one-hour dramas, and alternative series (reality) primarily for primetime broadcasts. Returning primetime programming produced either for ourselves or third parties in the 2008/2009 television season include the one-hour dramas Army Wives, Brothers & Sisters, Criminal Minds, Desperate Housewives, Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, Ghost Whisperer, Grey’s Anatomy, Kyle XY, Lost, Private Practice, Reaper, and Ugly Betty; and the half-hour comedies According to Jim, Samantha Who? and Scrubs. In addition, America’s Funniest Home Videos and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition entered the domestic syndication market during 2007, while Grey’s Anatomy was licensed in 2007. New primetime series that premiered in the fall of 2007 included the one-hour dramas Cane, Dirty Sexy Money, Private Practice, and Reaper, and the half-hour comedies Carpoolers, Cavemen, and Samantha Who? Planned midseason shows include the one-hour drama Eli Stone and the comedy Miss Guided.

The Company also produces original television movies that the ABC Television Network airs along with acquired theatricals as ABC Movies of the Week.

Under the Buena Vista Productions label, we produce a variety of primetime specials for network television and live-action syndicated programming. Syndicated programming includes Live! with Regis and Kelly, a daily talk show; Ebert & Roeper, a weekly motion picture review program; and game shows, such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. This programming has been sold for multiple years into the future and some of the talent has signed long-term commitments.

Television Production and Distribution

We develop and produce television programming for distribution to global broadcasters and cable and satellite operators, including the major television networks, Disney Channel, and other cable and satellite networks, under the Buena Vista Television, Buena Vista Productions, Touchstone Television, and Walt Disney Television labels. Program development is carried out in collaboration with a number of independent writers, producers, and creative teams, with a focus on the development, production, and distribution of half-hour comedies and one-hour dramas for network primetime broadcast. Network primetime comedies and dramas are aired on the ABC Television Network, unless noted otherwise. One-hour dramas produced by Touchstone Television and airing in the 2006/2007 television season include Criminal Minds (for CBS), Desperate Housewives, Ghost Whisperer (for CBS), Grey’s Anatomy, Kyle XY (for ABC Family), Lost, and What about Brian and the half-hour comedies According to Jim and Scrubs (for NBC). In addition, According to Jim and Scrubs entered the domestic syndication market in September 2006, while both Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy were licensed to Lifetime in 2006. New primetime series produced by Touchstone Television that premiered in the fall of 2006 included the one-hour dramas Brothers & Sisters, Six Degrees, and Ugly Betty. Planned midseason shows include one-hour dramas Daybreak and Dirt (for FX) and the comedies In Case of Emergency and Knights of Prosperity.

The Company produces Power Rangers Mystic Force, the latest version of the popular Power Rangers franchise, for Toon Disney and the ABC Television Network.

Under the Walt Disney Television and Buena Vista Television labels, the Company develops and produces animated children’s television programming for distribution to broadcasters throughout the world, including Disney Channel, the ABC Television Network, and other cable broadcasters.

The Company also licenses and syndicates its animated television and other properties in a number of foreign television markets.

The Company also produces original television movies that the ABC Television Network airs along with acquired theatricals as ABC Movies of the Week.

Syndicated programming includes Live! with Regis and Kelly, a daily talk show; Ebert & Roeper, a weekly motion picture review program; and game shows, such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

      Under the Walt Disney Television and Buena Vista Television labels the Company develops and produces animated children’s television programming for distribution to broadcasters throughout the world, including Disney Channel, the ABC Television Network, and other cable broadcasters.

      The Company also licenses its animated television properties in a number of foreign television markets. In addition, we syndicate certain of our television programs abroad.

      The Company also produces original television movies for The Wonderful World of Disney, which the ABC Television Network airs on Saturday evenings along with theatricals which air as ABC Movies of the Week

      Under the Buena Vista Production label, we produce a variety of primetime specials for exhibition on network television, as well as live-action syndicated programming, which includes Live! with Regis and Kelly and The Tony Danza Show, daily talk shows, Ebert & Roeper, a weekly motion picture review program, and game shows, such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
