Xplore Technologies OTC:XLRT makes mobile computing devices that are made to work in particularly extreme and rugged conditions. Their tablet personal computers are built to work in extreme temperatures, dirty or dusty conditions, and survive high vibrations. The computers also have the ability to connect to a wide range of utilities such as various docking stations, gps systems, keyboards. Xplore's sales tend to be enterprise wide solutions.
For the full year 2010, the company reported a total revenue of $22M and a net less of $5.7M. While research and development has historically been the largest expense, general administration became the largest in 2010.
When a company decides to purchase Xplore's technologies, it tends to do so on an enterprise wide scale. This means that the company has very long sales cycles where it negotiates and bids for potential customers. If a series of customers or if a large customer fails to select Xplore after a long sale cycle, the company could undergo significant costs.
Xplore competes with a series of companies which create either rugged or semi-rugged computers. The single largest competitor is Panasonic but all three companies can be considered competitors.
