Great article - one interesting area to dive into relates to their digital investments. While not equivalent to businesses like Alexa, Amazon's minority investments in companies like Shelfari, a social network for book lovers, provides an interesting insight into their future strategic direction. Apple's primary value from iTunes ($.10 profit per song) is that they sell more iPods ($100+ gross profit per unit). Why is Amazon getting into this low-margin biz? So it can cross sell books and DVDs?
