A note on the previous comment about Class 8 truck engines. Although engines are 19% of CAT's sales, Class 8 truck engines are only about 5% of total sales. CAT diesels are used for many applications. Also, CAT has been working on their own automatic transmission to compete with Allison. On to this article, I think the information is very good. To be able to grow revenues and profits by any amount during the current U.S. construction downturn says a lot about the company's global diversification. And bear argument 1 does not make sense. I think it is a good thing that the company can sell everything it makes with excess demand still there.

In Ward's recently released N American Market Share data for Class 8 diesel engine sales, Caterpillar has been steadily declining while Cummins appears to picking speed. There are some rumors that CAT may get out of the Class 8 (on highway trucks) altogether. you may want to comment on this dynamics, as it impacts 30% of CAT's revenues.
