I am concerned about your article on Deere (DE). Your writer has stated that revenue is down and net income is down for the first half of 2009 (as compared with the first half of 2008). Should not he wait for actual data from the company that will be available in mid-July? No hard feelings but this is reckless reporting. Dave

Deere & Co. (DE) operates under a fiscal year that ends on October 31st, this means that the first two quarters (or first half) of the fiscal year is over on April 30th. Therefore, actual company data (as in, data officially released from the company) indicates that income for the first two quarters of the year (or fiscal year) 2009 is actually down. This is timely, well informed reporting; not reckless reporting.

Very informative article. My first suggestion is to make sure the data stays up to date. Almost all of the figures quoted are for 2006. Deere has already released first quarter 2008 earnings, so the 2006 data should be replaced by 2007 info. Another area that Deere is making a big effort is is developing diesel engines that run on alternative fuels. I know in the truck business Deere supplies LNG fueled diesel engines that are often used in garbage trucks. This could be a future growth area for the company.
