This a good article that carefully tracks Kodak's growth and expansion into emerging industries. I am a big fan of CEO Antonio Perez. However, Kodak has missed the boat when it comes to digital photo sharing and other areas that they should have dominated. With regard to photo sharing and storage services, companies like Shutterfly, Snapfish (HP), and SmugMug have got the jump on them. However, Kodak's EasyShareGallery (formerly Ofoto) is gaining some traction.

While the film industry continues to use Kodak products, it is increasingly clear that digital technology will win out in the future. Hollywood is not known for being innovative. Rather, one should look at the porn industry (read Eric Schlosser's "Reefer Madness: Sex, Drugs, and Cheap Labor in the American Black Market") to see that the world of movies is going digital. Given the increasing sophistication of CCD sensors and other imaging technology, there's little reason to doubt that digital film making will be able to replicate the effects of film. Thus, Kodak will lose that source of revenue as well or they're anticipating this trend and are developing appropriate products.

Printers are a good business and it will be quite curious to see whether Kodak will successfully convince people of the benefits of their pricing scheme. It is interesting to note that the average lifespan of a consumer printer is about 5 years, which is about 1.5-2x greater than the average lifespan of a personal computer.
