Should probably update portions of this article which refer to Oracle, particularly where Oracle is referred to as a potential competitor. Oracle has created their own distribution of Linux, and therefore, is a competitor.

Good overview of the business. Red Hat's business model is unique since they repackage and sell a product that can be had for free. Their training and hand-holding services, hence, have to be superb, in order to be justified by IT budgets. Second, the company is going to have a harder time procuring new customers in a tough economic environment. The strategy to diversify internationally is a good one. Lastly, in the virtualization section, I would mention VM Ware, which makes virtualization software.

Competition: ORCL is a "relatively new firm"? Perhaps in open source, but its dominance in the database field is certainly worth noting, and in terms of overall revenue, it is ORCL that dwarfs RHAT.
