With the threat of Microsoft entering the fray, the company has slashed the prices for its software and has been able to reach agreements which embed its technology on certain hardware. This is a great step for the firm and will make it stronger against the planned onslaught of Microsoft.

Great article - very detailed. VMware has been on a tear since going public, which is reflected in their ratios of course. Future growth however, is contingent on their expansion into new markers. Consistent with that need is their push into the desktop virtualiztion space through the recent acquisition of Thinstall. Frankly, while server virtualization has been the industry's bread and butter, the future belongs to desktop virtualization. This market evolution needs to be discussed as well as VMware's specific attempts to bridge this channel.
