However, two things that I think need to be mentioned in this article include: 1) Yes, Vodafone does own 55% of the company; however, this is a very contentious issue wherein Verizon desperately wants to buy out Vodafone's stake whereas Vodafone has been positively inflexible with regard to the price they are demanding (simply too rich). Verizon's data services (VCAST etc.) coupled with their network is the best in the US. For this reason, it makes sense for Verizon to own 100% of the business. 2) Verizon is the likely winner in the 700 mhz spectrum auction. Competition includes the usual suspects and big bad Google. At stake - Net Neutrality vs. Closed System (don't let Verizon's open network announcement fool you). Add comments or discussion related to this suggestion here. [edit] Good overview of the business. There have been some significant recent developments that should be mentioned in the article though. First off, Verizon made a decision in November to allow non-Verizon phones to work on their network. Given the Verizon consitently outperforms its rivals on network coverage and customer service, it is likely to increase the churn of its competitors who might to sign up for Verizon's wireless plans. Additionally, with 3G phones becoming increasingly popular, Verizon's network is already built to handle larger data packages and is faster than AT&T's new platform. Lastly, both Verizon and AT&T have been benefitting from the unsucessful merger of Sprint Nextel. The latter has been bleeding customers and they've gone to the two former companies.
