Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are extremely risky investments right now, as the government is taking control of them. My advice is to look for something a little more stable when you're first starting out.

Also be sure to look at metrics like P/E ratio rather than just share price - the Price-to-earnings ratio compares the company's price per share to their earnings per share, so its a good measurement of whether this company is performing and whether its a good value. Its useful to compare a stock's P/E ratio to the other companies in its industry.
