Call Notes

Here's the recap from our morning call. Please feel free to add additional comments to the list, or, correct me where my notes may have misconstrued your comments.

  • Isabelle
    • Needs to have tools that make it easy to share the portfolio, or a watch list comprised of (for example) industry-specific stocks. She would be interested in adding a tech-focused watchboard to a blog or something similar, not necessarily her own holdings.
    • Biggest issue with the current product is it's U.S.-focus. International investors should be able to add international stocks to their watchlist, at least.
    • If you go the competition route, you really need to focus on ways you can be different than existing players in this field.
    • The registration process is really important, and tools like FB Connect can help immensely in making this easier.
  • J.B.
    • Is looking for the ability to share views of a portfolio with friends or clients
    • General question of how to incorporate long-term investing focus into a platform like this so people can monitor strategic goals? How to have a global investment plan?
    • What are premium services you can offer in this environment?
    • Contests would be extremely interesting to allow student investment clubs to participate, share their findings
    • How do you use a tool like this to get people to _want_ to contribute?
    • Down the line, there's the potential to offer a Roulette-like service where traders can chat with each other / discuss their approach in real-time video.
    • Would like the ability to add his own, custom columns with data derived on his own
  • John
    • Wants some way to see what other investors are saying about the investments in his portfolio. Recent contributions, bulls / bears, annotations, etc.
    • If possible, he'd be great to include all of the fundamentals data we have as options for the customized views. Certainly wants to see Free Cash Flow data as a value investor.
    • Really likes the seeming ease of functionality with integration, redesigning your views. Certainly reminds him of Finviz.
    • Similar to the Roulette comment, wants to know how to best integrate peer reviews of investment philosophies, much like Seeking Alpha.
    • Would want to be able to add stop/loss for his investments, with alerts.
    • He'd also want to see the debt side of investing (if possible) as bonds make up a lot of people's portfolios.
    • All of these tools are already available to him as a professional, but not necessarily the everyday investor.
    • Red/blue and sustainable data aren't important to him as a professional investor.
    • Would love to see backtesting added, similar to Finviz' ability to do this back to ~15 years.
    • he's not worried necessarily about the large volume trades, but the small volume ones.
  • Hermann
    • Would like to see more data included in the customization options like ROI, Free Cash Flow Growth, Growth of Shareholder Equity, Free Cash Flow, etc.
    • Really interested in the movement of investors in and out of his investments from fellow wikinvest users as well as insiders, institutional, etc.

Recap from the afternoon call:

  • David -- uses interactive brokers
    • wants something that's going to pull him away from his day-to-day to notice unusual things in the market
    • all alert types are important (price, news, volume, etc.)
    • interested in a variety of widgets he can add to his desktop to follow these things throughout the day
    • on the earnings front, he'd like earnings information about his portfolio as well as earnings for the general market that day
    • would also be really interested in topic news so he could follow developments in china, israel, etc.
    • real-time chat would be interesting so users could express their point of view of holdings
    • other opportunities for person to person communication might be seminars
    • don't lose the encyclopedic base that this all started from
  • John -- day to day trading is not quite as important to him as a value investor
    • the most important alerts are the trailing stop / loss alerts so he can review his position and decide whether or not to make a move based on the price change
    • would like to see a connection between users for things like investing seminars on certain topics using WebEx
    • would like to see a better link between community activity (recent changes, bulls / bears, etc.) and portfolio holdings
    • Additional feedback via email:
      • tie this new tool directly to the wikinvest articles, commentaries, etc. each day.
      • backtesting can be valuable to the data driven investor
      • links to Finra.org, emma.org, SEC.gov, NASDAQ would be very helpful for the investor who wants deeper lines of access to direct info; also Bloomberg
      • stop/loss signals and programs.
      • A premium service for a substantial fee may, or may not, fit into your business model.
