Arrays: Arrays, also known as DNA microarrays, are used in molecular biology and in medicine to analyze multiple genes in a single experiment quickly and efficiently. They consist of a glass slide, chip or other substrate that contains thousands of small samples of DNA arranged in a regular pattern. Arrays are used along with reagents and instruments produced by companies such as Affymetrix (AFFX), Illumina (ILMN), and Applera (ABI) to analyze genomes and genes. Arrays are disposable instruments that can only be used once.
