Avaya, Inc., was spun off from Lucent Technologies (LU) on September 30, 2000. It was formerly known as the Enterprise Networks Group of Lucent Technologies and was built, in part, through the acquisitions of Octel, SDX, Prominet, and Lannet, Ltd. On June 4, 2007 Avaya Inc. announced that the company has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by two leading private equity investment firms, Silver Lake Partners and TPG Capital Ventures, for a total consideration of approximately $8.2 billion. Avaya shareholders will receive $17.50 for each common equity share. The deal is expected to close by the end of October 2007.
